Pahrump's Name
The Southern Pauites, the American Indians who occupied the Pahrump Valley centuries ago, named the valley "Pah" meaning water, and "Rimpi" meaning stone or rock. Pah Rimpi became Pahrump, the Pauite description for flowing waters emerging from rock. The aquifer lying under the Pahrump Valley reportedly is the third largest in the United States.

Excellent Regional Location
Pahrump is located in the southwest corner of Nye County that covers 18,064 square miles making it the largest county in Nevada and the third largest in the nation. It is 55 miles west of Las Vegas and 60 miles east of Death Valley. The scenic Pahrump Valley is 28 miles long and 8-12 miles wide bordered by the snow-capped Spring Mountains to the east and the Nopah Mountains to the west.

Tempurate Year-Round Climate
Pahrump's population is an estimated 35,000 and is located in Nye County. The Nye county seat is located in Tonopah, 165 miles to the north on U.S. Hwy 95. The county maintains offices in Pahrump for all its departments, and district court is held in both Pahrump and Tonopah.

Summer: Although daytime temperatures often reach into the 100's, gentle breezes and low humidity make the temperature seem lower. Due to elevation of more than 2000 ft above sea level, nights cool down to the 70's and mid 80s.

Spring and Fall: Temperatures range from the 60's in March to the 90's in May. September temperatures range in the 90's and drop off to the 60's by November.

Winter: Pahrump Valley nights are usually cold with temperatures dipping to the 30's for short periods of time. Days warm up to the 50's. Skies are usually clear and the pleasantly warm sunshine.

Climate Averages:
Clear and Sunny - 216 days
Partly Cloudy 84 - days
Rainy & Cloudy - 65 days
Relative humidity - 29%
Annual Rainfall - 4.7 inches

The Pahrump Valley is the driest region in the nation, second only to Yuma, Arizona. Pahrump also enjoys the lowest relative humidity in the country.
